Workiva controls management
Project overview and objectives
This mining company was undergoing a major internal controls transformation program with a third party. As part of that, select business units had partially implemented the Workiva Controls Management solution. The remaining units still needed the solution in place, but lacked the knowledge needed to implement on their own. They looked to Clearsulting for digital finance consulting support and leading practices around the Workiva Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) set of solutions.
What we did
Our approach involved collaborating with the various teams involved: those from the mining company, its third party transformation provider, and Workiva.
- Engaged stakeholders across the involved organizations to align on priorities
- Liaised with Workiva to resolve challenges and address organization-specific needs
- Advised on key design decisions
- Developed reports to facilitate completion of the attestation process
Impact
We ultimately implemented Workiva Controls Management solution for 23 business units. We also:
- Enhanced the solution for 2 business units already using it
- Imported risk and controls matrix and control test form tools
- Linked data records throughout the Workiva workspace, allowing updates to flow automatically
- Showed the efficiency and effectiveness of having centralized and automated controls management processes
